Merci mon ami for
the wonderful music you created for my first movie."
Dany Saadia 2008
3:19 is the title of the original soundtrack recording by Robin Guthrie
for the acclaimed Spanish film of the same name.
This is the former Cocteau Twins Guitarist's second soundtrack following
Mysterious Skin and it features all the trademark Guthrie, ethereal
soundscape you'd expect. This time, however, Robin has added piano,
just a bit a strings and a few sound effects that nicely communicate
the film's mood.
Robin Guthrie's talent should need no introduction. As co-founder and
guitarist of Cocteau Twins and producer of bands like Lush and Chapterhouse,
he has created some of the most beautiful music of recent times and
is widely regarded as a musical visionary, his sound influencing a generation.
After Cocteau Twins broke up in 1997 he has made a series of instrumental
recordings including ‘Imperial’, ‘Continental’,
‘Everlasting’ and ‘Waiting for Dawn’. Recently
he has collaborated with Harold Budd on the twin albums, ‘After
the Night Falls’ and ‘Before the Day Breaks’ as well
as the soundtrack to Greg Araki’s ‘Mysterious Skin’.
His latest soundtrack is for the Spanish cult hit film 3:19 which will
be released in the fall. His recent production and collaboration duties
include Mahogany, Ulrich Schnauss, Manual, Apollo Heights, Heligoland
and Resplandor.
At ATP Robin will be performing, for the first time in the US, with
‘Galerie’, his second animated film following the award
winning ‘Lumière’ from 2004. Robin’s approach
to animation remains in keeping with his approach to sound, very rich,
emotive, layered and treated. He creates distinctive landscapes, both
sonic and visual, that have become his trademark throughout his recorded
work and his live performance.
